The Situation
This family was preparing to move from a 4-bedroom home in Elkin to their new home in State Road.
Before moving day, the customer had two primary concerns.
First, they had recently invested in having the destination home professionally painted and wanted to ensure the move would not result in damage to walls, trim, stairways, or finished surfaces.
Second, they had two wall-mounted televisions and wanted to know whether they needed to remove them themselves or purchase specialty TV boxes before moving day.
The customer had also been referred to Mitchell Moving Co by a coworker who had previously used our services multiple times.
The Challenge
The move involved approximately 140 pieces and a home layout that required extra care.
Three of the four bedrooms were located upstairs and connected by a stairway with unusually low ceiling clearance. Large furniture pieces had to be carefully maneuvered through tight angles while maintaining protection standards and avoiding contact with surrounding surfaces.
The destination home added another layer of complexity.
The staircase featured hardwood stair treads and freshly painted risers. Because the customer had specifically expressed concerns about protecting the new home's finishes, the crew adjusted their approach accordingly.
Our Plan
Prior to moving day, we addressed the customer's concerns regarding both furniture protection and property protection.
For the televisions, our crew removed the wall-mounted units, professionally wrapped and protected them for transport, and delivered them safely to the new home. While we do not reinstall televisions, we ensured they arrived protected and ready for installation.
To protect the customer's belongings and newly painted home, the crew implemented Mitchell Moving Co's updated furniture protection standards.
Every furniture piece was:
- Wrapped on all sides using moving blankets
- Secured using stretch wrap
- Reinforced where necessary to prevent shifting
- Clearly labeled with its room of origin
- Loaded strategically for transport
Property Protection Measures
Because of the freshly painted surfaces and hardwood staircase, the crew took additional precautions throughout the move.
Rather than using dollies on the staircase, all furniture and household goods were hand-carried up and down the stairs.
This approach reduced the risk of impacts, scuffs, and damage to finished surfaces while navigating the narrow stairway.
